ALL ABOUT LCE SCIENCE LABS

The Science Lab is a PTA funded, parent volunteer run program with the purpose to engage all level of students and encourage curiosity of the scientific process. Labs are pre-planned. No experience is needed to volunteer!

Typically there are 4-5 stations/tables at each lab. There are 4 parent volunteers with one parent leading the lab by introducing the lab and the concepts and concluding the lab at the last 5 minutes.

The labs are pre-planned and volunteers for Science Lab do not need previous experience. The labs will be set up by the Science Lab Chairperson(s) and/or the Grade Level Lead. At least 4 parent volunteers are asked to be at the lab to keep the students on task for the experiment. There will be an email sent out 3 weeks prior to a lab to parents that have signed up to be a volunteer. This is so working parents have a chance to volunteer as well.

Experiments are hands on for the students, the parent volunteers just keep the students on task and reload the items for the experiment as necessary. Students from Kindergarten to 6th grade conduct the experiments on their own using the scientific process:

* Ask a Question

* Do Background Research

* Construct a Hypothesis

* Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment

* Analyze Your Data and Draw a Conclusion

* Communicate Your Results

Would you like to be a Grade Level Lead? This role is setting up and putting away the labs for the grade you are Lead for and filling in as a volunteer if necessary. No experience is necessary and there are 3-4 labs for each grade during the year. The Science Lab Chairperson will step in to help when needed.

The dates and subjects of labs are still TBD. If you have any questions, please contact the Science Lab Chairperson _______________ at _______________.
